This post is long overdue, as what I am writing about actually took place on the 7th February 2015. I would have written about it earlier, but I was waiting for the audio file – and now I have it (thank you Chichi!).
The 7th of February was a particularly exciting day for me because I had been invited to come on radio that day, on not one but two radio stations – Metro Fm 97.7 @ 10:45 am and Rhythm Fm 93.7 @ 6pm. It would be my first, but not my last, time on radio to talk about my poetry.
I particularly loved my time at Metro Fm, as it was just me and the two OAPs Sunday Imonah and Chichi Okolo. The programme is called Vivid Verses, and every Saturday morning, you will find the hosts interviewing a different poet.
I performed She Sways for them, and because I wasn’t on camera, I didn’t have to worry about nerves and forgetting lines. The poem was right there in front of me on my phone.
My time at Rhythm Fm was a little choppier but it was also a lot of fun. There were several different artistes in the studio, and so the time spent on each performer was brief, but it also felt like a little in studio party, which goes very well with the Freedom Hall vibe – the founders of the programme I featured in.
Needless to say, it was a really exciting day for me. And I feel honoured to have been invited to Metro and Rhythm.
