Mr Lifeguard

So, I wrote a song today - another work of art inspired by my ex (he really should get some of these rights) and providing me with free therapy. Songwriting is not one of my strongest skills, but I like to try once in a while anyway.

(If any musician/singer e.g. Heather Headley, Jhene Aiko, Beyonce etc /producer/song engineer reading this, feels the lyrics and actually wants to turn this into a song, I'm all ears 😉 )

Do let me know if you like it:

It looked so blue,

Caught me looking, caught me true,

Dipped my foot in,

Immersed my body,

Waded in,

The water lapped against my skin.

If I could save myself, I would,

I would fight the current, if I could,

I wouldn’t choose to drown.

Why do you stand there and stare me down?

Mr Lifeguard save me,

Tell me that you want me.

It drags me far beneath the deep,

The bubbles, like the tears I weep,

I kick my legs,

I twist my hips,

I reach for air,

Notice, you’re no longer there.

If I could save myself, I would,

I would fight the current, if I could,

I wouldn’t choose to drown.

Why do you stand there and stare me down?

Mr Lifeguard save me,

Tell me that you need me.

I watch my breath float away,

Watch living drift to yesterday.

I spread my arms,

And close my eyes.

Will you think of me?

Now I’m part of the ocean, part of the sea?

If I could save myself, I would,

I would fight the current, if I could,

I wouldn’t choose to drown.

Why do you stand there and stare me down?

Mr Lifeguard save me,

Tell me that you love me.

It's been so long since I've written poetry, was starting to think I was forgetting how...just glad to have something done.

Keep writing!
